My
updated 2009 theatrical trailer for Tony Kaye's powerful 1998 motion
picture American History X,
starring Edward Norton and Edward Furlong.
THE CONCEPT: American History X's
genius is installing in viewers an instinctive sympathy for the
marganilzed and ridiculed through its compelling story. It is not a
cerebral affair, falling somewhere between mainstream Higher Learning and the hardcore Romper Stomper.
Where the original theatrical trailer fails is pounding us over the
heard with its heartfelt image. To speak to younger audiences, American History X demands a
revised, stylized theatrical trailer to lure viewers who need to
understand the effects of racism but who wouldn't ordinarily expose
themselves to a heartfelt film about race relations.
